While I was unable to put together
a winning Bass Pattern today like I did on Saturday,
I did have the fight of the day. Early this
morning while I was fishing for Bass with Mike
Mallott (Mike has no use of his legs) I set
the hook on a Monster for 6 LB Test Line on
a Daiwa Capricorn 1500 on a 7 ft Light All Star
Rod. I was using a MOJO Rock Hopper weight about
12 inches below a # 1 Daiichi Drop Shot Bleeding
Series hook with a 4 inch Bass Assassin Split
Tail in Watermelon Red Flake.
Mike said he thought I had
hooked a log until my little reel started singing.
While the battle only lasted ten minutes it
seamed like forever! On the 2nd try Mike got
the Muskie sorta in the net and could not lift
it out of the water. We did not have a scales
that would weigh it, but it was 27.5 inches
long and I could not put my hands around it's
belly. It was just short of the legal length,
or I would have kept it for pictures! I sure
wanted pictures of that big fish with that little
hook and bait hanging out of it's mouth. The
Daiichi was right in the corner of it's mouth,
but the line was really frayed and would have
broke if Mike had not got it's head in the net
when he did.
Who says you have to go to
Canada and use monster lures to catch Muskies?
I talked to another angler that had caught a
20 incher on a 1/8 ounce jighead with a grub
in the same cove in the afternoon. Pomme is
a great lake and with the clear water we could
see most of the hits Saturday and Sunday. I
did catch over 50 bass on Saturday and won that
tournament and had big bass too.
By the way, I was on WDAF this
evening and gave the complete Pomme Fishing
Report including the Muskie story. All Sponsor
got their far plug and I may need a bigger live
well in my next Ranger!
