High Performance Weight Systems = MOJO
BY: Jim Noah
SUBJECT: High Performance Weight Systems = MOJO
While working for All Star
Rods at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield I helped
a fellow Manufacture out by loaning him some
rods to use. He fell in love with them and I
re-discovered MOJO. Like me, many you have used
the MOJO Slip Shot System instead of damaging
our line by crimping split shot for years. I
love them and have them in the Ranger at all
times.
MOJO has some new products
I just had to have after seeing them in the
tank. They work just as well on the water as
in the tank. I'm impressed and so should you.
Rock Hopper
The first item is called the
"Rock Hopper" and it really comes
through the rocks like a champ. It is a real
hassle and weight saver. The hassle savings
is more than worth the cost if you like to fish
rocky structure and banks like those at Table
Rock Lake. The Rock Hopper is a hard cylindrical
weight with a cross-bored line hole near one
end. MOJO says this is computer designed and
with my long history with computers I believe
them. The cross-bored hole is at the top of
the weight after the cast causing the weight
to stand on end. This position allows the weight
to walk on any hard bottom and not get hung
up. As MOJO says "it's an inexpensive fix
for snag free fishing." Check out some
of the fancy painted balsa wood with lead attached
prices and you will agree.
I rig the Rock Hopper on the
long tag end I create using Palomar knot by
using three strands of jig rubber and a MOJO
Pegging tool. I've been sliding little Bass
Assassin Lizards along the bottom in a sort
of drop shot fashion using the Rock Hopper.
I use 2/0 XPoint Wide Gaps rigged Texas Skin
hooked to catch a bunch of fish. Sure I loose
a few Rock Hoppers, but it's quick to re-rig
since all I loose is the weight. I'm finding
with a 12 to 18 inch leader this works better
than the more traditional Carolina Rig. It's
also easier to cast with a spinning rod than
the longer leader used on the Carolina Rig too.
In the Tank Larry had rigged
the Rock Hopper as a slip sinker weight using
a pegged bead to generate noise. This way you
have a more traditional Carolina Rig. The Rock
Hopper comes in 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, and
1 oz sizes so MOJO has all you're needs covered.
Rig Saver
The next really neat deal is
called a "Rig Saver" and I don't know
why I didn't think of it! The "Rig Saver"
is the first sacrificial weight, or at least
the first one called a sacrificial weight. MOJO
has designed a neat wire loop for our line to
slide through. The long ends of the wire slip
inside the weight and are bent around the bottom
ends of the weight and clipped off. This secures
the weight and your line can not be damaged.
If or when your weight hangs as little as 5
pounds of pull will free your line leaving the
weight, but not the rig! Simply push the wire
ends through a new weight and bend them to hold
the weight and you're back fishing. No re-tying!
It's that fast!

This is going to be my new
Carolina Rig weight. I'm going to put the weight
wire on my line, two glass polished faceted
beads, and tie on my XPoint hook. I'll peg the
bottom bead with two strands of jig rubber letting
the second bead and weight bang into it. Be
sure to cut the jig rubber off close to the
bead without nicking your line and you are ready
to go. This rig has several advantages, one
knot, not the usual three, instant leader length
adjustment by sliding the pegged bead up or
down the line, and an easy to replace weight
if it hangs up. Whole lot of benefits to this
new system!
Bass Pro Shops and other retailers
have these new weights. Can't wait to get to
a store, go to www.mojolures.com or call them
at 800 474-MOJO. These are neat ways to enjoy
your time on the water and catch more fish.
